We thought this was a nest based on the mound of disturbed sand left by the turtle.  However, volunteers could find no eggs, and no hatchlings emerged after 80 days of monitoring. This nest has been reclassified as a false crawl.

This turtle was determined to nest.  She crawled through a cabana and around beach chairs before finding a spot to nest (see photo album).  After nesting, she crawled over 100 ft before reaching the water, possibly disoriented by lights.

A beach walker saw some eggs by the tide line and flagged down Nancy Evou, one of our atv surveyors.  Nancy found 18 eggs and reburied them at a higher location (many eggs were lost to the surf).  This nest was missed by our surveyors, maybe because it was laid close to the water, causing the track to be washed away.  The appearance of the eggs suggests they were only a few days old when found on July 12.

Adopted by Patronis Elementary 3rd grade gifted class.  This turtle had to maneuver around lounge chairs before finding a spot to nest.  These chairs should be stored off the beach at night so they don't obstruct nesting turtles.
