This loggerhead emerged onto the
beach around 7:30 am, a rare daytime nesting event which was observed by many delighted tourists.
The turtle was tagged and the nest was moved to protect the eggs from surf flooding. Pictures of
this turtle are in the photo album.

This is our fourth nest in the vicinity of
the Pinnacle Port Condo. The turtles seem to like this area. Not sure why this nest had such
poor hatching success. Most of the unhatched eggs had no sign of embryonic development.

This is the smallest loggerhead nest
ever found on Panama City Beach. Our average nest has 109 eggs, but this one had only 35. This
nest was washed away by Tropical Storm Isidore a day after 24 hatchlings emerged.

This nest was missed by the daily survey (yes,
we're human). It was identified by police officers who saw hatchlings crawling on the condo parking
lot. Some of the hatchlings fell into a storm drain and were rescued by Turtle Watch volunteers who
lowered an umbrella through the grate, opened it to allow the turtles to crawl onto the umbrella, and then raised
it to bring the turtles within reach. More turtles were spotted in the drain the following night by Sam
Satterfield, an observant 5 year-old who called authorities after seeing the turtle informational sign on a
public walkway. Thanks to Sam's efforts, we were able to rescue 6 more hatchlings. Good job Sam!

This nest was also missed by the daily
survey. It was identified after condo residents saw hatchlings crawling in the dune vegetation.
The turtles were disoriented by flood lights on top of the Moonspinner. Fortunately, over 50 hatchlings
were rescued.
