The turtle maneuvered between lounge chairs
and nested near the base of the dune. Hatchlings emerged on the night of August 1, and some were disoriented by
nearby walkway lights and urban glow from PC Beach. Volunteers were on hand to rescue these turtles. |

Our first tagged turtle of the season! Volunteers
encountered the turtle as she was returning to the water during a severe thunderstorm. Tag RRE 547 was installed in
the right front flipper. Excavation revealed that 32 hatchlings emerged, but we never saw them. The turtles may have emerged during a rain storm, which could have washed away their tracks. |

Got to see the nesting turtle! Nancy placed flipper
tags in front flippers, and Jeff and Kym moved 101 eggs to higher location nearby. This nest has been adopted by
Gulf Beach Preschool. Excavation revealed that 50 hatchlings emerged, but we never saw them. They may have emerged when
the nest was washed by the hurricane surge from Gustav or Ike. |
