Our first nest of the season was relocated by Carl and Chelsea Garvin to Sunnyside to protect the eggs from nourishment activities, but we couldn't save them from Tropical Storm Arlene.  The storm surge washed the nest away on June 11.

The track of this turtle wandered over 200 ft along the beach before entering the water, indicating that she became disoriented after nesting.  Hurricane Dennis washed the nest away on 7/10.

Lounge chairs on the beach created an obstacle for this turtle, but fortunately she was able to crawl between the chairs to find a nesting spot.  She left 14 eggs on the surface or nearby.  Volunteers Lorraine and Carrie reburied the eggs with the nest.  Hurricane Dennis washed the nest away on 7/10.

It's been 7 years since a nest was laid near the Carousel Store at Laguna Beach.  This area is covered by the lighting ordinance, which may help to explain why turtles are returning to this area after a long absence.  Tropical Storm Cindy washed the nest away on 7/6.

Volunteers Cathy Land and Kennard Watson got to see this turtle lay her eggs on a beautiful starry night.  Nancy Evou tagged the turtle's front flippers.  This nest failed to hatch due to flooding from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

This nest experienced 100% disorientation when it hatched on 10/6.  The turtles were attracted to the skyglow of PC Beach and some unshielded streetlights near the nest.  Fortunately, Turtle Watchers Brad and Wendy arrived in time to collect 68 disoriented hatchlings.  They were released at Sunnyside.

Vicki and Carolyn Salinas saw the turtle nesting and called authorities.  Turtle Watcher Nancy Evou arrived just as turtle was returning to water.  Nancy noticed that the turtle was already tagged, and the tag numbers confirmed that we tagged this turtle in June 2002.  Our first tag return!!! This nest was washed away by Hurricane Katrina on 8/29.
