The map shows the location of all nests identified in 2001, and the table shows which nests were lost or relocated during Tropical Storm Barry.  The nests are numbered chronologically, with Nest 1 representing the first of the season and Nest 13 the last.  Turtle Watch volunteers checked the nests for hatchlings every night beginning 45-50 days after the eggs were laid.  The average incubation time in 2001 was 64 days, although nests hatched as early as 58 days and as late as 68 days.

Ants got into this nest and forced us to do an emergency excavation.  4 hatchlings emerged on their own, all covered in ants, and 18 more were discovered inside the nest.  Shirley Brown, Paul Gicewicz, and Kennard Watson cleaned the ants off the turtles and released them into the gulf. 47 unhatched eggs were reburied beside nest #10.
