The main
danger for the hatchlings is disorientation from beach lighting.
Nesting turtles can also become confused by lights from development, although
this occurs less frequently than hatchling disorientation. Nesting
turtles are hampered by beach chairs and other gear left on the beach at
night. The turtle may abandon her nesting attempt when people shine
lights or take flash photos while she is looking for a spot to lay eggs.
